The Great Widower

The play is based on the short story ‘The Great Widower’ from the book ‘Life as It Is’ by Nelson Rodrigues. It tells the story of a widower who, after losing his beloved wife, informs his family that he also wants to die and be buried alongside her. However, he will only join her after completing the construction of a mausoleum where their bodies will rest side by side.

The family, unable to accept the situation, tries to convince him at all costs not to commit suicide, but they only have the time of the mausoleum’s construction to do so. Ultimately, the relatives resort to unscrupulous means, based on slander about the deceased, to prevent the tragedy. The outcome, however, turns out to be completely unexpected for everyone.

Since its debut in 2012, the show ‘Blind Theater – The Great Widower’ has been a hit with both audiences and critics, gaining visibility in the cultural world with performances at SESC venues, Teatro Tucarena, Itaú Cultural, among others. It has also been featured in social inclusion events such as ‘Virada Inclusiva’ and the ‘Sensory and Inclusive Art Showcase of Brasília,’ consistently selling out and receiving positive feedback in digital and print media.
